The Book Seller’s Perspective: How to Write Books Bookstore Buyers Want to Sell
Most authors dream of seeing their book on a bookstore shelf. However, getting your book in a store isn't as easy as calling them up and saying it's published and ready.
Book sellers are looking for books they love and can sell. This selection process can be somewhat of a mystery to authors, but luckily Arsen Kashkashian is here to explain.
In this presentation, Kashkashian will talk about how a book buyer does his work, give a demonstration of how he uses the Edelweiss database to find books he wants to stock, and share what he's looking for in the titles he selects. He hopes to help authors look at their work from the perspective of a bookstore buyer, so they understand how books are selected, placed, marketed, and sold.
Whether you're a published author or just starting to write, understanding what book sellers need and want will help you get your book on the shelf.
Arsen Kashkashian is the Head Buyer for the Boulder Book Store, so it's his responsibility to keep the shelves stocked and product moving. He is the co-host of a monthly radio program on KGNU that features in-depth interviews with authors about their latest work. He won the 2006 Gordon Saull Award for Outstanding Book Seller and served a two-year term as president of the Independent Bookstore Consortium.
